Deputy Commissioner CHEN Shifei of NMPA Visited WestVAc

On the morning of July 21st 2021, CHEN Shifei, Deputy Commissioner of the National Medical Products Administration, HE Xun, Deputy Director-General of Sichuan Medical Products Administration and YU Hui, Director of Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Administrative Committee, visited WestVac Biopharma Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "WestVac") accompanied by Academician WEI Yuquan, Chairman of WestVac and the management team of WestVac.
At the meeting, on behalf of WestVac, Academician WEI Yuquan extended a warm welcome to the delegation headed by Deputy Commissioner CHEN Shifei, and gave a comprehensive report to the leaders and experts on the progress of the company and its vaccine development, mentioning that a vaccine to prevent the viral infection is in dire need to stop the spread of the pandemic, for which WestVac is striving to accelerate the development of its 2nd generation COVID-19 vaccine, and building its research capacity on five core platform technologies to expand its core strength.
CHEN Shifei, Deputy Commissioner of the National Medical Products Administration, pointed out that, since the onset of the outbreak, under the emergency deployment of the central government, domestic research institutions have committed to the development of COVID-19 vaccines on multiple pathways, making a great contribution to the prevention and control of the pandemic. Right now, the more complex pandemic situation and the continuous emergence of new variants require us to respond as quickly as possible, accelerating the development of the new generation vaccine with better outcome. The recombinant protein COVID-19 vaccine developed by Academician Wei's team is innovative in China and the world as well, hopefully WestVac will expedite its international clinical trial and commercialization, exhibiting the innovative force of the Chinese vaccine biology in the fight against the pandemic and contributing to the global response.
HE Xun, Deputy Director-General of Sichuan Medical Products Administration, indicated that the Administration attaches great importance to the development of WestVac, and has paid a number of visits to WestVac to ensure the compliance of its production in a more efficient manner.
YU Hui, Director of Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Administrative Committee, said in the meeting that the Hi-Tech Zone is trying to provide WestVac with a sound development environment and resource service, so as to ensure its rapid development.
After the meeting, the delegation headed by Deputy Commissioner CHEN Shifei, in the company of Academician Wei, visited WestVac's Chengdu production base and made instructions on site.
